Best Flowers By Season

The lovely Anna from Fox and Fern Florist talks us through the best wedding flowers by season.  Anna created the beautiful floral displays on Jessica and James‘ wedding at Elms Barn in 2019.

When it comes to choosing the time of year for your big day.  There may be various reasons to factor in that concludes to your decision. No matter what time of the year you choose.  You can rest assured that when it comes to flowers, all year round there are so many beautiful blooms to work with! I’ve listed a personal favourite flower of mine from each season.  Although choosing just one was pretty difficult I won’t lie!

Spring – Peony

Ok, I did lie a little bit. Peony wins for me, hands down. In fact, a Peony would win all year round if it could. Sadly though these beautiful, big frilly blooms are only around over spring.  I try to use them as much as I possibly can to make the most of them! They come in all sorts of shades too.  From classic whites and blush pinks, to fiery reds and coral making them able to fit in with any colour scheme is certainly possible!

Best Flowers By Season

Summer – Phlox

Possibly not so commonly heard of from some Brides and Grooms.  Certainly a little underrated in the floristry world. But this beautiful cluster of delicate, individual flowers is a firm favourite of mine in wedding arrangements over summer.  Phlox definitely deserves a space in my list of the best wedding flowers by season.  They work beautifully in a bridal bouquet.  Packing a punch in table centrepieces and has a resemblance to the Hydrangea, albeit much smaller in size!

Best Flowers By Season

Autumn – Dahlia

Where do I start! The fact these guys come in SO many different colours is already amazing.  Then they come in all different shapes and sizes too! From funky little pom poms to ginormous striking focal flowers.  The Dahlia definitely is a perfect all-rounder flower to use in any of your arrangements. These can range from classic autumnal shades of burnt orange and burgundy to cerise pink and white!

Best Flowers By Season

Winter – Ranunculous

With its paper-thin, delicate frilly petals Ranunculus deserves its place on a list of the best wedding flowers by season!  It’s easy to see why anyone would love some of these as part of their wedding flowers. They work really well in a country garden style arrangement.  Perfect for those who like more natural-looking displays at their wedding.
