10 of the Best Outdoor Wedding Venues in Norfolk
18TH MARCH 2020
There are plenty of options if you are looking for an outdoor wedding venue in Norfolk. The gorgeous county of Norfolk is renowned for it’s blue skies and is there anything better than marrying the love of your life under, hopefully, a big blue sky?
Norfolk is full of amazing wedding venues. One thing I have definitely noticed in the last few years is the rise of the number of venues offering outdoor wedding ceremonies. Obviously something to factor in when planning an outdoor wedding is a plan b. This is the UK after all! So part of my thought process when arranging this list of outdoor wedding venues was what options are there if you are unlucky enough to have rain on your special day.
So without further ado, let’s delve in with ten of the best outdoor wedding venues in Norfolk.
1. Happy Valley
Happy Valley is one of my favourite wedding venues in Norfolk. It has a beautiful woodland clearing which is perfect for an outdoor wedding ceremony. Another option for your ceremony is the private island which can also be the perfect backdrop for your wedding. Set in nine acres of lovely woodland, Happy Valley is well worth it’s place as one of the best outdoor wedding venues in Norfolk. As a backup, if rain was to happen on your big day, the party barn can be utilised. The venue also has luxury glamping and the beautiful Toad Hall which is perfect for your preparations and for your guests to stay in. Nikitta and Neezam had their Happy Valley Wedding where Uncle Steve actually ran the ceremony. It was one of the loveliest outdoor weddings I have been a part of.

2. Southwood Hall
Southwood Hall is a well-known barn wedding venue in Norfolk. Its famous Coronation Barn is a cracking backdrop to your wedding day. A big reason for Southwood Hall making the list of the best outdoor wedding venues in Norfolk is its flexibility. Southwood’s strapline is “your wedding your way” and when it comes to outdoor wedding ceremonies this is completely accurate. The number of options for outdoor spaces at Southwood Hall makes it ideal if you have something particular in mind. After a woodland wedding ceremony? Check out the new ceremony space which sits just outside the Cartshed Lodge. The walled garden gives a classical feel and then there is the Rotunda which is a beautiful spot too.
When Lauren and Adam had their outdoor wedding at this venue in 2018, as the rain fell the registrar actually invited all the guests to join them under the Rotunda. Obviously, with the Coronation Barn being the focal point of the venue it is the perfect plan b should the rains come. My local venue, I have filmed so many weddings here and they are always a bit special.

3. Oxnead Hall
Oxnead Hall is one of those epic wedding venues again with lots of options available to you. Having a wedding ceremony set in the beautiful grounds overlooked by the spectacular architecture is something special. With a river running through the grounds you have the option of a riverside ceremony. You make your way down the aisle of trees towards the love of your life. Tracy and Martin had a gorgeous summers day wedding by the river. There are also options for an indoor ceremony if the worst happens. All of this adds up to another worth addition as one of the best outdoor wedding venues in Norfolk. Having filmed several weddings at Oxnead Hall I have seen some lovely days here so it is definitely worth a look.

4. Voewood
I still am sometimes surprised that I have only filmed one wedding at Voewood. A stunning Arts and Crafts country house in North Norfolk, it forms a stunning backdrop to an outdoor ceremony on the lawns. This charismatic wedding venue is a mixture of elegance and coolness and brings a rather special vibe to your big day. Steph and Ben had planned an outdoor ceremony, however, when the rains came there was a rush to bring the chairs inside. If you are looking for something a little bit different then this eccentric spot could be the place for you. All in all one of the best outdoor wedding venues in Norfolk.

5. Chaucer Barn
Chaucer Barn is a lovely converted barn in North Norfolk. Like many of the venues on this list, Chaucer Barn has the strength of flexibility when it comes to your ceremony. With the options of a meadow ceremony, woodland ceremony as well as others. Add into that the back up of having a ceremony inside the barn itself and Chaucer Barn also deserves its place on this list of some of the best outdoor wedding venues in Norfolk. Louisa and Amber had their wedding ceremony in the meadow. With their guests making their way through the gardens. The meadow made for the perfect backdrop for these two lovely ladies.

6. Fishley Hall
Fishley Hall is a DIY wedding venue in Norfolk. With the barn space as a backup, Fishley Hall has a couple of great spots for your outdoor wedding. A working farm, Fishley Hall is a fantastic venue and perfect for a rustic wedding. Include into that an outdoor ceremony under the big Norfolk sky and you have a fantastic mix for an outdoor wedding venue. Megan and Daniel were desperate for an outdoor ceremony and despite it raining all morning. Come the ceremony time the rain cleared and they were able to have their ceremony that they dreamed of. Fishley Hall is definitely a venue to check out if you want the complete flexibility of a dry hire wedding venue.

7. Godwick Hall
Godwick Hall and Great Barn is a stunning wedding venue in North Norfolk. The grass space outside the barn itself lends itself perfectly to an outdoor wedding ceremony. Undoubtedly, the barn being there is also a cracking backup were the weather to be against you. Overlooking the Goodwick ruins, set up a wooden arch and have the Boho/Rustic outdoor ceremony of your dreams. A fab wedding venue with a great outdoor ceremony option. Holly and Ben had an awesome day at Godwick Hall and even took Ben’s Harley Davidson for a spin after they tied the knot.

8. Hautbois Hall
Having your outdoor ceremony overlooked by a Tudor Manor House is something just a little bit special. Time it right and you can even have the sound of a steam train passing by. Hautbois Hall is one of my favourite wedding venues. With its courtyard for your guests to mingle and the amazing grounds, Hautbois Hall ticks a lot of wedding boxes. One of the best outdoor wedding venues in Norfolk, this awesome location is set just a few miles outside of Wroxham.

9. East Ruston Old Gardens
This is probably the least know outdoor wedding venue on the list. East Ruston Old Gardens isn’t a venue that holds a lot of weddings but when Christy and Harry had their wedding there in 2019 I might just have fallen in love with the unique venue. They had their woodland ceremony in a lovely sheltered spot before having a marquee in the nearby field. The real jewel in the crown here though is the gardens themselves. Once the gardens closed Christy and Harry took a walk around the most incredible gardens with a plethora of different varieties of flowers. This is a hidden gem of a location and well worth it’s spot on a list of the best outdoor wedding venues in Norfolk.

10. Hockwold Hall
The walk down from Hockwold Hall to the Gazebo is just a little bit special. This beautiful venue is a fabulous space for your wedding. With the option of the banqueting hall or the blank canvas that is the marquee, there are some great options for your wedding reception. Back up plan is the lovely ceremony room which is a great option. Leslie and Dean flew from the other side of the world to have their wedding at Hockwold Hall and had the most amazingly intimate day.

Worth a Note
So there we go, that’s 10 of the best outdoor wedding venues in Norfolk. These are all venues that as a Norfolk and Suffolk wedding videographer I have filmed at before and know they are all excellent. There are other venues where I haven’t worked at who also are fantastic outdoor wedding venues in Norfolk.
One last suggestion for an outdoor wedding ceremony is to go full-blown DIY. A marquee/tipi in a field or a back garden wedding is also just plain awesome!
