The Prep
So this one probably was one of the biggest secrets I have ever had to keep for a wedding day. In my time as a wedding videographer in Norfolk I have been asked to keep many secrets from surprise waiters to air shows. Never have I ever had to keep an entire wedding secret but that is exactly what Jess and James did.
When the enquiry first hit my inbox Jess talked about how the plan was to surprise their guests in the morning. Nothing too unusual there until I read further and saw that the surprise was that none of their guests knew they were coming to a wedding.
Jess and James had spent the last few months convincing their guests that they were off to get married abroad in the sunshine and that this was purely a prewedding party.
This pretence had been kept up with everyone. The bridesmaids arrived on the morning for a “pamper party” to be told that it was actually a wedding and they were to be bridesmaids.
How They Made it Their Own
I probably don’t need to go too much into this as it’s kind of obvious. A surprise wedding will pretty much make the day unique. Five minutes before Jess was due to arrive at the Octagon Barn, James stood on a box and addressed their guests where he announced the surprise to cheers.
The guests were then invited around the back for a gorgeous outdoor ceremony (I know right? 2022 is still smashing those outdoor ceremonies!) followed by a lot of apologetic hugs as Jess and James mingled with their guests.
This was my first time at The Octagon Barn which now becomes my joint closest venue with it only being about seven minutes from my house.
Wedding Video Vibe
I just had to feature the surprise heavily in the film but there were definitely some lovely moments throughout the day. We took the couple into the field at golden hour which gave some lovely footage and I even busted out the lights for a night shot (I think that’s my first one since the winter.) The party atmosphere was strong as the couple hit the dance floor with their guests and we even squeezed in my second longest ever sparkler shot!
